Location is a key value information to increase efficiency: data-driven to make better business decisions.

In recent years, location has become a key value for IoT, adding several capabilities and business opportunities in varied scenarios, such as the retail sector, agriculture or industry. Large or small, niche customer segments demand to incorporate location into their activities as valuable information for their business. Hence, assets tracking and people monitoring provide information to the companies about their supply chain. For example, we can think in a factory where we are able to track how the assets move within the warehouse (manufacturing phases) or between distribution points and the delivery place (“last mile”).

Designed and manufactured by Sayme, senstracking compact was conceived to cover this need in the low-powered and low-cost tracking, as industrial, reliability and scalable solution with a long-lifespan without the need of replacing or recharging the batteries.

IoT devices are -by definition- low-cost (scalability) and low-powered (durability). Obtaining the location (absolute or relative) has always been a complicated task in energy terms; GPS is not traditionally low-powered. Besides, it does not work in indoor scenarios, so you can’t use it in warehouse, factories or buildings. Therefore, this new conception of location requires new methods

Amazing Results

In order to resolve this new paradigm, IoT tracking devices should avoid GPS and going directly to WiFi technology as a positioning system.  Instead of connecting to satellites (time and energy), your device will listen to WiFi networks and send the close access points (BSSID) to a cloud service which will position your device based on an enormous database WiFis networks. As you can appreciate, It’s particularly useful in indoors and urban areas where it’s easy to find several WiFi networks. So that you will be able to track your assets during the last mile with enough precision and combining it with other wireless technologies like Sigfox, 2G or LTE, you will be able to know the status and position of your assets all the time.  Probably, you cannot provide accurately location as GPS (2-3 metres), but enough for you purpose, and will have a device of authentic low consumption which works indoors (warehouse, shop, etc.) and outdoors, delivering an accurate location (50-100 metres).
